Optimized SWTOR .ini files!
« on: 07/05/12, 12:28:10 PM »
Alright, copying over my old thread on the topic! These will either enhance your performance, in game, or the quality! Pick or choose. This first one will be the optimized, for better performance!

Copied over:

"Alright, so lately I've been tooling about with some of the game's settings files. After doing some research, I found out that the lowering your game settings has the opposite of desired effects; in fact, it actually causes the game to put more of a strain on your computer!

So, for those that would like to try it, I am going to post one of the configurations I came up with, that seems to help a lot.

[Renderer]
AntiAliasingLevel = 2
Buckets = 3
D3DFullScreen = false
GraphicsDeviceId = 3619
Height = 705
MeshLODQuality = 1
DynamicLightsLimit = 50
enableadvenvirolighting = false
DebugAdvEnviroLighting = false
NativeHeight = 768
NativeWidth = 1366
TextureAnisotropy = 0
Width = 1019
WindowX = 0
WindowY = 0
VerticalSyncState = false
SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 1.
FarClipScale = 1.
doShadows = false
doBlobShadows = false
doOmniShadows = false
HighShadowResolution = false
EnableHighShadowResolution = false
shadowQuality = 0
UseMinSpecShaders = true
EnableDynamicShadowFiltering = false
DynamicShadowFiltering = false
EnableZPrepass = false
EnableAccumTrails = false
TextureQuality = 0
AllowDepthOfField = false

[Game]
MoviesFolder = ..\..\Movies
SwtorRegKey = SOFTWARE\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic

Granted, you will need to adjust the resolution either in game or in the text file, which isn't a big deal. The instructions for 'installation' for this are fairly simple, though I only have them for Windows 7 at present:

Ensure that Hidden Folders are viewable by going to the control panel, selecting view - small icons and then folder options.

Follow this file path to locate the .ini file: C: (or local disk) -> Users -> [Your User Name] -> AppData -> Local -> SWTOR -> swtor -> settings -> Client_settings.ini

SWTOR has a back up and default .ini built into the core files, so if anything goes wrong, all you need to do is delete the file I've direct you too and it'll reset your settings. In order to install the above text, simply delete the contents of your client_settings.ini and copy in that which is located above.

Feel free to post any questions, concerns or requests here or in a PM. I can also post up the one I use to make the game look even prettier!

EDIT: Quick note, in order to change the resolution in the text, you're looking for: width, height, nativewidth and nativeheight. "

Now for the better looking option!

"
[Renderer]
AntiAliasingLevel = 0
Buckets = 2
D3DFullScreen = true
GraphicsDeviceId = 26424
Height = 1080
MeshLODQuality = 0
DynamicLightsLimit = 8
enableadvenvirolighting = true
DebugAdvEnviroLighting = true
NativeHeight = 1080
NativeWidth = 1920
TextureAnisotropy = 16
Width = 1920
WindowX = 0
WindowY = 0
VerticalSyncState = true
SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 1.25
FarClipScale = 3.9371195
doShadows = true
doBlobShadows = true
doOmniShadows = true
HighShadowResolution = true
EnableHighShadowResolution = true
shadowQuality = 2
UseMinSpecShaders = false
EnableDynamicShadowFiltering = true
DynamicShadowFiltering = true
EnableZPrepass = true
EnableAccumTrails = true
TextureQuality = 0
AllowDepthOfField = true

[Game]
MoviesFolder = ..\..\Movies
SwtorRegKey = SOFTWARE\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic

That is as pretty as I can make it after a bit of research and futzing, someone might be able to do better, but that is damn shiny. Granted, it has my resolution, so you'll need to adjust that in game as well!

Enjoy!"

This has helped a lot of people run their games smoother. Thanks so much for bringing it over.

If your version of windows has a search feature, I would figure it's safe to assume that searching for Client_Settings would return the .ini file from SWTOR and you'd be safe to copy/paste the settings in from there. Any word if these setting are more efficient compared to the new 'optimized' performance features from bioware?

They are, simply because of extra things that can be accomplished by custom writing the .ini. Most of the options listed? You cannot change them in the game itself.

Uh I have a problem when I change my resolution in game to what I use, the fps drop again. Could you perhaps show me what to change in your list for 1440x900 resolution, please?

Alright, there is a list of things that will cause the resolution to reset. All you need to do is change two parameters within the file itself: width and height. Just match that with the corresponding numbers you gave me, and ensure that (if in windowed or border-less) it is lower then your desktop resolution. That or the same.

EDIT: When I get home, I will rewrite a low-res variant.

Sorry over the delay, been terribly busy and ill lately. Should have it up tonight after work... if I don't go straight for my pillows.

oooh well if you're not feeling good then don't rush. Take care of yourself. We can all wait for a low res version, your health comes first.
