Stronghold Listing Not Accepted
« on: 04/11/15, 07:19:30 PM »
I was trying to set up a stronghold entry for my Coruscant stronghold and I worked out the post in a Word before pasting it into the  stronghold description. Now when I try to add the stronghold it keeps telling me that I need a description when I already pasted one in. It's a decent size description so I'd rather not type the whole thing out again directly into the description box just to see if that would work. It there some way to make the copy and paste description work?

The main issue is that Word tends to add in characters that the Stronghold and the GuildNet do not accept. Usually things like ' and " are the culprits, in that Word replaces them with special versions of those characters.

I never use Word to work on anything anymore for that reason. It causes a lot of problems in coding as well.

I usually end up using Notepad. There are other programs that are fancier. But Notepad output will never cause you problems.

It'll be painstaking to go through every punctuation mark you have... But the problem most likely lies there. The special characters have to be replaced with bare ' and " as you see here.

Thanks. I tried pasting everything into notepad and recopying it just in case that was the issue. Most of the time that will take out the formatting but it didn't accept the version I pasted in from notepad either.

That's because Notepad retains the special characters that Word adds.

You unfortunately do have to go through it manually or with a Find function.

Thanks again that was the issue. Word had replaced the punctuation and stuck an accented e in my cafe so the stronghold system kicked it back until I found every last one.... thank goodness notepad has replace. Ctrl + H for anyone else that find themselves in this position

I ran into the same problem and headache with my arc posts the other day! I had to take out every ' ! Thanks Esk for the work around!

That being said, is there any chance that one day our site won't be broken by special characters? *looks sadly at her Canadian multilingual keyboard*
